Titmouse Mosaic Crochet Pattern

Titmouse is a crochet coaster set worked in the no-fringe overlay mosaic technique. This is not the same as inset mosaic crochet.

If you’re used to regular overlay mosaic crochet which requires cutting the yarn at the end of each row, this will be a useful technique to add to your repertoire. Each coaster/trivet will only have four tails to weave in. The simplest coaster to begin with is the candle.

Titmouse features simple Christmas-themed charts for three trivets (two shown plus one additional), and eleven coasters (eight shown, plus three additional) made with Patons Grace cotton yarn and a 3.25 mm hook.

One skein each of Cardinal and Clay will make two trivets OR 12 coasters. Project shown (two trivets and twelve coasters) used most of four skeins of Patons Grace, two Cardinal and two Clay. If you use the traditional mosaic crochet method with fringe at the sides, you will need to budget more yarn.

Cotton is recommended because of its absorptive properties and heat resistance. If you want these coasters and trivets to be waterproof, they will require an additional layer of impervious material such as cork, felt, or plastic. Instructions for waterproofing are NOT included.

Coasters measure 3” square, and trivets measure 8” square. This pattern contains both charts and written instructions.
