The simple back-and-forth lacework lets a peek of light into this dark and cozy cowl. Because it doesn’t contain a single purl stitch, it works up very quickly. This pattern is built on knit stitches, increases, decreases, and yarn overs.

For this project, it is not essential to match gauge perfectly. Gauge is most important for the width/stitches per inch, but if you err too widely, it will still work. In other words, be sure it can fit over your head! This gives you flexibility with yarn choice, too.
