The butter piece is optional, as the coaster will not be levelled with it attached. This pattern uses Paintbox Yarns’ Cotton Aran 609 Light Caramel, 610 Soft Fudge for the toast, and 622 Daffodil Yellow for the optional butter piece. If Paintbox Yarn is not available in your area, you can also use any 100% cotton aran/worsted weight yarn. A 4.0mm (G) size hook is used, and darning needle is needed to sew in ends and optional butter piece.

Crust edge (610 Soft Fudge)
Single crochet along the left side of the toast, fitting 2 SC in the side of DC and 1 SC in the side of SC. As you reach row 11 where there were increases, chain 1 before and after the SC to accommodate bump.

Chain 1 on both bottom corners. SC along the bottom chains. Then SC up the right side too, similar to the left side as above. Chain 1 over Row 14 slst, and along the top of Row 14, SC really loosely to accommodate the curve.

Invisible join and sew in tails.

Small butter piece (Optional; 622 Daffodil Yellow)
Note: Measure how big you want your piece of butter by doing a few chains, the butter piece will be a square, so imagine that you’ll have a square according to the amount of chains you have.

Once you have the desired length (n), start with (n-1) chains, and do (n-2) rows. For me, I wanted 6 x 6, so I started with 5 chains, and did 4 rows.

Chain 5
Row 1: Start from 2nd st, SC x4 (4)
Row 2-4: Chain 1, SC x4
SC along the edges, chain 1 around corners.
Leave plenty of yarn tail to invisible join and sew on butter piece to the bread piece.
