Toe-up, Forethought Heel Sock Template
Toe-up, “forethought” heel template, for 2 sizes (ladies “medium” and gents “medium”). Sized for 8-9 sts/in (fingering). Includes 6 rib-based simple patterns (3 for ladies, 3 for gents) for you to try.
Pattern is written for 2-circulars or magic loop, and can easily be done “2-at-a-time”. It is easily adapted to DPN knitting.
This is a simple tube sock started from the toe, with a heel slit knit in using scrap yarn (EZ’s “thumb trick”). The heel is completed after the sock is done. I’ve included my own unvention of small short-row gussets in the heel construction for better fit, and a less-obtrusive, symmetric double-decrease rather than the traditional “wide” diagonal line.
note: if you want a deeper heel, add more rows of knitting before you start the decreases for the heel, after the gussets have been done. DO NOT make the heel longer by continuing the decreases. This just makes the heel “pointy”.
