Toe-Up Two-By-Two
This pattern for toe-up socks features ribbing in the instep and leg, an increased toe starting from an invisible cast-on, and a small gusset to make the short-row heel fit more perfectly. Socks may be knit one or two at a time, on two circulars or magic loop.
Sizing is flexible; the sock is 7” unstretched, but will fit feet from 7.5” to almost 10” in circumference; length is knit to fit. In addition, there are copious notes on making further adjustments to the sizing, to fit many different types of feet and legs.
Socks for most feet can be knit with 100g of any sock yarn; larger men’s feet with a mid-calf or taller leg may require additional yarn.
Skills you will need: knitting and purling, knitting in the round on magic loop or two circulars, decreasing (k2tog and SSK), increasing (recommended increase is explained), invisible cast-on method (Judy’s magic cast on is recommended and URL is provided), stretchy bind off (Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind-off is recommended and URL is provided); familiarity with the concept of short rows is helpful but step-by-step directions are provided.
A knitter who has knitted socks before and is looking to improve skills and fit will get the most from this pattern, but it is suitable for first socks if the knitter possesses the skills listed.
