Töfra
Töfra was part of my Icelandic yarn Club 5 and is now available as a single pattern.
Töfra is a magic hat. It fits all heads from babies to adults. Only the length changes to get various styles: cute pixie hat, beanie, with the brim folded once or folded twice, covering the ears or above them. And it’s completely reversible! A truly magical hat!
One size fits all, really? The secret lays in the special ribbing: a variation of vertical lines of knit and purl over 12 stitches that make the fabric unusually elastic and adapt to its wearer. All sorts of socks and mittens with this type of ribbing can be found in the museums in Iceland. They were the inspiration for the one size fits all Katlastroff socks from my book Socks of Iceland, and now this wonderful hat.
That said, I do provide you with 3 sizes, S(M,L), the size M being the “magical one”.
Töfra is knitted from the bottom up and the crown is shaped with evenly decreases within the rib motif. Að töfra is the Icelandic verb for doing magic, so let’s do some magic together and knit a Töfra beanie!
Sizes: S(M,L), length is adjustable. Size M will fit most heads but choose a Size S for babies and a size L for really big heads.
