Toggle blocks stashbuster
The ultimate stashbuster blanket - crochet your own stunning Toggle Blocks afghan with this very easy mosaic overlay crochet pattern. Use up all your scraps. This simple pattern consists of an easily memorised 6 stitch, 6 row pattern repeat. Everything is written out for you, charts are included for those who prefer them. One file is written using US terms, the other uses UK terms.
Each colo(u)r band uses approx 10g of yarn made up in the size shown.
Not sure how big a blanket you can make with the amount of scraps you have? No worries! Gather them all together, pop them on some scales and then use the handy Ready Reckoner which I’ve included for free. This shows you the size(s) of blanket you can make with that amount of DK/Light Worsted weight yarn.
All you need to know are basic crochet stitches, the technique of making the toggle blocks appear is fully explained with a picture tutorial. Have a look through my pattern reviews, even people who have never done mosaic overlay technique pick it up easily from my patterns. You use only one colo(u)r per row so there’s no fiddling about with bobbins or changing mid row
All the ends are tidied away in an envelope border which again - is fully explained - in English - with a very detailed picture tutorial. Even though I’ve used so many colo(u)rs, there are only 5 ends to sew in!
The blanket in the main photograph measures 35 in / 89 cm wide x 40 in / 101 cm long (excluding border). The size is easily customisable to make it bigger or smaller. The Ready Reckoner tells you the number of stitches to use for each of the multitude of sizes available.
I used Stylecraft Special DK to make my afghan but any Double Knitting/Light Worsted (8 Ply) yarn may be substituted. To make the blanket shown a total of approx 650g / 1820m is required (excluding border).
A typical hook to use is 4mm (G-6). Depending on yarn thickness, you may have to adjust hook size to achieve the same gauge as mine.
