This pattern has been inspired by the shortage of toilet paper during the Coronavirus crisis.

To those, who do not own a bidet, toilet paper is a crucial commodity. However, the Coronavirus pandemic has made it a rare sighting in supermarkets. The production of toilet paper hasn’t ended but, rather, people have been panic buying toilet paper, because who isn’t afraid of the moment of grasping the last sheet of the last toilet paper roll when you’d still need more. Personally, I didn’t have that moment of panic in recent memory and didn’t rush to the store to buy paper because I expected the supply and demand to return to normal fast. What a terrible mistake! The last two weeks I’ve been searching for a refill for my quickly dwindling stock of toilet paper, but I haven’t gotten lucky yet. I hope you’ve had better luck.

So, to commemorate this extraordinary situation and to appease the toilet paper gods if there are any, I decided to knit socks with toilet paper rolls on them. I’m sure that the more people knit them, the happier the gods will be, and we’ll all be blessed with a full shelf of toilet paper the next time we go shopping.

The socks are knitted top down and have a double stitch/ German short row heel.

There are 3 sizes:
EUR 37-38 (US women 7-8)
EUR 39-40 (US women 8.5-9.5)
EUR 41-42 (US women 10-11)

Needle size: double pointed needles 2.5 mm (US 1.5)
Gauge: 32 sts = 10 cm (4 inches)

Tämän mallin inspiraationa on ollut vessapaperin loppuminen kaupoista koronakriisin aikaan.

Niille, joilla ei ole käsisuihkua vessassa, vessapaperi on erittäin tärkeä hyödyke. Koronaviruspandemia on kuitenkin tehnyt vessapaperista harvinaisen näyn kauppojen hyllyillä. Vessapaperin tuotanto ei suinkaan ole loppunut, vaan ihmiset ovat rynnänneet kauppoihin hamstraamaan paperia, sillä kukapa ei pelkäisi sitä hetkeä, kun tarttuu viimeisen rullan viimeiseen paperinpalaan, vaikka tarve olisi vielä muutamalle lisäpalalle. Itselläni tuo kauhunhetki ei ollut niin tuoreessa muistissa, että olisin monen muun tavoin lähtenyt kiireen vilkkaa paperiostoksille, vaan uskoin kysynnän ja tarjonnan palautuvan entiselleen. Se oli suuri virhe, sillä viimeiset kaksi viikkoa olen etsinyt täydennystä jo hälyttävästi vähenevään varastooni, mutta vielä ei ole lykästänyt. Toivottavasti sinulla on käynyt parempi tuuri!

Juhlistaakseni tätä hämmästyttävää tapausta ja lepytelläkseni vessapaperijumalia (jos niitä on), päätin neuloa sukat vessapaperirullien kuvioilla. Olen varma, että mitä suurempi joukko vessapaperin kuvia neuloo, sitä tyytyväisemmiksi jumalat käyvät ja ensi kauppareissulla meitä kaikkia siunataan täydellä hyllyllisellä vessapaperia.

Sukat neulotaan varresta varpaisiin ja niissä on tiimalasikantapää.
