Told-To-Me Sweater/Coat
The pattern for this sweater was literally told to me by a woman I met in the 90’s at a business conference. Unfortunately, I don’t remember her name.
Because the sweater is crocheted vertically instead of horizontally, you can make it any length you desire, from sweater all the way to coat length. The length will depend on how long you make your foundation chain (this will become more clear as you read the pattern).
This is an advanced-beginner- to intermediate-level pattern. The instructions aren’t as detailed as those found in most commercial patterns, at least for the right and left sides. You will essentially be incorporating the pattern stitch into the right and left sides of the sweater and creating a back and sleeves in single crochet.
While gauge is usually extremely important, especially when creating garments, you’ll note that I haven’t provided a gauge for this pattern. That’s because I didn’t get any gauge information when I first learned how to make this sweater. But, as you read on, you’ll discover that a gauge isn’t really necessary for this pattern, as long as your stitches are even throughout. I’ve provided some guidance in the pattern that should help if you want to create a gauge for this pattern.
I have tried to provide as much information as I think you’ll need to crochet this sweater. If you have questions, send me a message.
Happy Crocheting,
Patrice Walker
