Tollow Hat
I knew when I created the Tollow Cowl that I wanted a matching hat and I just love the combination of the two pieces together. This design features a folded brim in stockinette, that you can make shorter or longer depending on preference. This makes a thick and warm hat, keeping you comfortable during the cold winter days. The pattern can also be easily adjusted for a more fitted hat or a slouchier beanie. Happy knitting!
Yarn: You can use any DK weight wool or wool-blend. Samples shown knitted with yarns from Q-lana: BFL 262 Sport (Valor) 262m/100g, Mersilyak (Berenjena, Conjac) 212m/100g, Baby Alpaka Plus DK (OOAK, Bosque) 225m/100g. Colourways Size 1: Valor (A) Barenjena (B) and Bosque (A) OOAK (B).
Size 2: OOAK (A) Conjac (B).
Needles: 4.0mm/US 6 and 3.5 mm/US 4, 40 cm/16’’ circular needles. DPNs or a long circular needle to work the crown in the smaller needle size. Check your gauge and adjust needle size/s if necessary.
Gauge: 20 stitches x 35 rows for 10x10 cm / 4’’ in stockinette with the larger needle
20 stitches x 24 rows for 10x10 cm / 4’’ in brioche stitch with the smaller needle
Finished size: Sizes: 1 (2). To fit head circumference: 48-54 cm (54-60 cm)/19-21’’ (21-23,5’’). Length: 21 (23) cm/8 (9)’’. Note the stretchiness of the folded brim and brioche when working with wool, as I can use both hats comfortably with a head circumference of 59 cm/23’’.
Yardage: Total yardage 1 (2): 180m/200yds (210m/230yds). The colour used for the folded brim will stand for 2/3 to 3/4 of the total yardage depending on the height of the brim.
Other items: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, 6 stitch markers, crochet hook and waste yarn for provisional cast on. A spare circular needle 4.0mm/US 6 or smaller, in any length to work the folded brim.
