I used Big Merino yarn by Garnstudio, Drops design knitting this hat.

This yarn makes the braided cables really look goog, and it is a fantastic yarn to work on.

You can easily make the hat fit you perfectly, since it is knitted flat, and you knit for as long you need it to fit around your head perfectly.

The pattern also have instructions how to make it a bit less baggy :-)
