Tootsie Booties
In this pattern you will find instructions for three sizes of baby bootie: 0–3 months, 3–6 months and 6–12 months, in two yarn weights (super chunky and light super chunky) and with options for three different basic cuffs and additional instructions to put a twist on these! There are also bonus mitten patterns at the end in knit and crochet.
The pattern has been written in collaboration with Jayne Tucker of Two Little Rainbows for use with her gorgeous faux suede soles. These come in sizes 0–3 months and 3–6 months and are linked in the pattern. You can of course choose to crochet a sole for these sizes instead and a crochet sole is the only option for 6–12 months for safety reasons. We do not recommend that babies walk in these booties.
Skill Level ~ The pattern is suitable for beginners onwards! You’ll find plenty of picture and video tutorials included.
Method ~ please note that this pattern is written using UK crochet terms. US abbreviations are also included in the chart on page 3.
For use with the soles from Two Little Rainbows we will be crocheting through the holes in the soles before continuing with the main body which will be crocheted in rounds (apart from the ribbed cuff option which is constructed in rows). When making the booties without using the soles we will be crocheting in rounds and turning in between.
The pattern is suitable for use with any super chunky/bulky or chunky/bulky weight yarns.
Gauge is achieved by crocheting the sole for the size and yarn weight used and comparing it to the sizes given.
This is the perfect pattern for using up those yarn scraps as it can be crocheted in contrasting colours for sole, body and cuff!
