This was designed with hobby mid-gauge machines in mind and the sample was knitted on the Brother KX350. A bulky machine will make some sizes and a metal mid-gauge may be used, too. Mid-gauge machines tend to have varying numbers of needles available. Make sure that yours has enough for the desired size. The maximum number of needles needed used is:
106, 112, 118, 124, 130, 136, 142, 148
Those with ribbers may use them but re-forming stitches to make ribbing is what is described in the pattern. The yarn in use is Layla from Village Yarns. It is a cotton/acrylic blend #3 ribbon yarn that gets 5.25 stitches/7 rows/” at stitch size 6 on my KX350. In wear, there is a bit of drop and the gauge changes slightly. Expect to gain about 2” of length and lose about an inch of width. The “as knitted” sizes are 3941.6, 44, 46.2, 48.4, 50.8, 53, 55.4”. Since the tunic covers the hip area, be sure to allow for that when choosing a size.
For those who wish to use alternate yarns, very detailed measurements are given of the as knitted pieces. This shape is not difficult to draw out on a charting device. Doing that will make it possible to reproduce the design in many yarns.
