A crochet top hat with matching bow tie and diaper would make a great photo prop for baby boys’ first pictures.

The top hat and bow tie instructions are written for the smallest size (newborn to 3 months) with instructions for larger sizes (3-6 months or 6-12 months) in parentheses. The straps on the bow tie and diaper cover are adjustable to fit sizes newborn to 9 months.

Two skeins of yarn are needed to make the hat as it is crocheted with two strands together. One skein of yarn is needed for a diaper cover and less than one skein is needed to make the bow tie.

Materials needed:
US Crochet hooks H/8 (5.00 mm) and I/9 (5.50 mm)
Worsted weight/Category 4 yarn
1 Button ½-¾ inch
2 Buttons ¾-1 inch

SS = Slip Stitch
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half-double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
BLO = Back Loop Only
FLO = Front Loop Only
DC2TOG = Double Crochet Decrease
