This ribbed scarf uses the mosaic technique to show columns and rows of the same color in the same row! Mosaic knitting uses only one color at a time. The pattern repeat is a multiple of four (k1, p1) ribbing, with a strategically placed slip stitch. This pattern uses two rows of MC (RS, WS) followed by two rows of CC (WS, RS) with all stitches slid to the other end of the needles before changing colors.

This pattern is designed for two colors (third photo), using 400 yards of each of two colors. It’s also a great stash buster (see first two pictures). It’s very forgiving of various yarn weights. You might also want to hold a few strand of thinner yarn together to make a truly unique scarf.
