Tor Chunky Rib Hat Knitting Pattern (pdf digital download)
’A cosy and classic chunky rib hat’

A classic twisting rib hat designed for chunky-weight wool – the sample in the main picture is knit in Stylecraft’s Bellissima Chunky wool.

The ribbed cable gives extra definition to the design with the columns of knit stitches framing the twists of the cable. The pattern is aimed at the knitter who prefers to knit on single-pointed needles (knit flat), with a photo-illustrated guide to mattress stitch to create neat seams but there are also instructions about how to knit the hat in the round.

The pattern requires 6mm and 6.5mm knitting needles, a tapestry needle and a cable needle (a 6mm knitting needle can be used instead).

There are instructions for two sizes an adult medium (22” head circ) and an adult large (23” head circ).

Materials (knit flat)
One pair of 6mm knitting needles (single point)
One pair of 6.5mm knitting needles (single point)
1 100g ball of Stylecraft Bellisima chunky acrylic wool
(optional) A cable needle
A tapestry needle (for sewing up)

Note: If knit in the round, a 6mm circular needle, a 6.5 mm circular needle and a set of four 6.5mm double-pointed needles are required.

Casting on, knit and purl stitches, rib, cable stitches, mattress stitch (for sewing seam) and making a pompom
