Tora is a scarf with Japanese lace embellished with Estonian nupps (bobbles). The main motif has patterning on both RS and WS. The lace motifs are charted only.

Instructions for making nupps are included in the pattern, as are video links to two techniques.

Tora is part of my series Along the Whale Road, which highlights yarns from places visited & settled by the Vikings. The original shawl was knitted in Navia Uno, a blend of Faroese, Shetland, and Australian lambswool manufactured in the Faroe Islands.

Tora is the daughter of Sigmund Brestisson from the Faroese Saga. She is known for her quick wits, strategic thinking, and ability to find solutions to tough problems.

The “whale road” is a Norse kenning for the sea.
