Toy poodle
Many of my friends have requested a knit replication of their cherished pet. I’ve decided to share some of the designs with the knitting community!
The word ‘poodle’ comes from the German word, ‘pudel’, meaning ‘puddle’ or ’to splash in the water’. Poodles officially come in five sizes, determined by shoulder height: there’s the teensy teacup poodle, the tiny toy poodle, the medium miniature poodle, the considerable klein poodle and the sizable standard poodle! This knitted dog is both a toy poodle and a poodle toy! And its’ cool studded collar gives it a brazen bearing and a peppy posture!
This poodle was knitted on 2.00 mm double pointed needles (UK 14, US 0); working with thin needles creates a dense fabric and the stuffing won’t come peeping through. The collar was made on 1.25 mm needles in miniature, but can be made on bigger needles in heavier yarn and will then turn out somewhat bulkier.
This 12 cm model was made with Scheepjes Softy (479) beige, but any kind of bouclé yarn will give your dog its’ curly fur.
It is a fun, fast and easy knit with some knitting in the round and short rows.
Have poodles of fun knitting this precious pet! Viv
