Tracery Hat
Based on the Swedish Dubbelmossa knitted hat, this is a double thickness hat with each half a different stitch and color. You’ll work one long tube with closed ends. The first half starts with a circle on which you’ll build loops (the gauge for the mesh half is 15 chains/inch). Once the circle is big enough, simple chain and attach the loops until it’s the proper length. Switch yarns and change to double crochets for the proper length, decrease for the other end of the tube and fasten off. Stuff one end inside the other, turn up the cuff and you’re good to go!
I used 120 yards of Nature Spun Worsted for the mesh half and 180 yards of my handspun worsted singles for the solid half. My testers used slightly different amounts so I’ve adjusted the yarn requirements to allow for individual differences.
Although I used a solid color for the mesh and a multicolored yarn for the solid portion, there’s no rule that says the solid portion can’t be a solid color and the mesh a riot of multicolored yarn. This hat is meant for fun!
