Traditional French Baby Bonnet
This soft, elegant, traditional baby bonnet is perfect for any special day. It is knit in one piece with seed stitch edging to frame the face. The filigree neckline is gathered with ribbon at the base of the bonnet for an excellent fit. It is the perfect bonnet for your tiny prince or princess, and absolutely destined to become a family heirloom. It is perfectly paired with the Traditional French Baptism Gown. I created this piece for the Baptism of my daughter.
The bonnet is soft and stretchy, and can be knit in two sizes, newborn to 3 months, or size 6 to 18 months.
You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit stitches, purl stitches, knit two stitches together, yarn over, cast off, seam the finished work and knit in ends of the finished work – skill level beginner/intermediate.
A bonnet, for an average skilled knitter, should take approximately 6 hours to complete.
The model was knit in Katia Merino 100%, color 1, and is worn by my twin daughter, Angélique, seen in the photos at age 10 ½ months.
