These were firmly knit, usually from warm wool, often for the men of the family because fishermen wore them inside their boots while out on the water. This is the pattern used by Annie O’Toole of Calvert NL, who knit many vamps in her 95 years of caring for her family.

This pattern was included in a kit purchased during summer 2017 from The Colony of Avalon gift shop, Ferryland, Newfoundland.
