Trail Walk Mittens
Walking local trails has long been a favourite thing for my family to do, and to walk them in the winter is almost as fun as in the summer. Except for the problem of cold hands. The wind can rip right through the little spaces in knitted mittens, leaving hands less than warm. The answer to this problem is to knit a lining for your mittens, doubling the insulating value. I had already done this for myself (Winter Walk Mittens, Moonlit Walk Mittens, Frosty Walk Mittens), but shouldn’t the men have the same treatment? Worsted weight merino on the outside, cozy soft dk weight alpaca merino blend on the inside makes for lovely warm mittens for him as well.
You can be very imaginative with your colour combinations, it works well with tonal or more traditional colour choices, but don’t be afraid to get a little more playful with them!
The outer mitten is knit first, and then you pick up around the edge of the mitten to knit the inner piece. I have included photos to help you understand exactly how to do this.
Gauge: outer mitten - 20sts=4 inches on a 4mm needle
inner mitten - 24sts=4 inches on a 3.5mm needle
Please add your finished mittens to ravelry, I’d love to see your colour combinations!
