About:
Trails and Tribulations hat was inspired by our trip to the Tongariro Crossing, in the North Island of New Zealand. This spectacular landscape has mountain views, and beautiful trails to hike. This hat has been designed to reflect the mountainous landscape, and to take with you when hiking. The Trails and Tribulations hat is a stranded colorwork pattern using two colours of DK/8Ply yarn and is sized for 5 sizes, from new-born to adult.

Recommended Yarn: DK / 8ply
Two high contrasting colours of smooth, single colour, 100% Merino yarn.
The sample shown was knitted in Touch yarns, in the colour ways Oatmeal and Olive.

A tip for finding well contrasting colours is to take a photo of your two balls/skeins of yarn next to each other, then edit the photo to black and white. This will show the depth of contrast for your colour choices, in turn making sure the colorwork stands out.

Gauge:
Knit in the charted/written pattern in the round, 22 stitches x 30 rounds = 10 cm / 4”. It is really important to get correct gauge as this will impact the height of the hat for the pattern size.

Recommended Needles: (adjust needles as required to meet gauge)
• 3.5mm / US 4, 30-40cm / 12-16” length circular needles for ribbing.
• 4mm / US 6, 30-40cm / 12-16” length circular needles for main body of hat.
• Your preferred small circumference method for the smallest hat sizes and for the crown decreases.
