About this Pattern
Named after Malabrigo Yarn’s beautiful “Tranquilo” colourway, this hat is simple, but definitely not plain. It begins with a tubular cast-on and ribbed brim, followed by a stranded colourwork pattern. This is a great pattern for beginners ready to up their knitting game, or for more seasoned knitters wanting a relaxing, dare I say – tranquil – project.
Yarn
Malabrigo Rios (worsted weight): 100% superwash merino; 100g; 210 yards (192 m). Shown in “Tranquilo” (MC) and “Natural” (CC).
Yardage
Approx. 150 (160, 175) yards / 137 (145, 160) metres MC and 100 (110, 125) yards / 90 (100, 115) metres CC of worsted weight yarn.
Needles
4 mm (US 6) and 4.5 mm (US 7) circ. 16” (40 cm) needles, and 4.5 mm (US 7) DPNs or circ. 32” (60 cm) needles for for crown shaping.
Notions
Tapestry needle, stitch markers, pompom (optional).
Gauge
19 sts / 24 rows over 4″ / 10 cm in pattern, in-the-round, using 4.5 mm (US 7) needles
Sizing
Pattern written for three sizes: S (M, L). The final hat will fit head circumference of about 21 (23, 25) inches / 53 (58.5, 63.5) cm.
Final Measurements
Circumference (unstretched): 19 (20 ¼, 22 ½) inches / 48 (51.5, 57) cm; height: 9 (9 ½, 10)“ / 22.5 (24, 25.5) cm.
