Full disclosure, I almost called it “Epoximise!” but I was concerned that was too deep nerd to resonate with people.

Why “transfiguration?” Well because I don’t really like cowls generally, if you don’t get them just the right size they’re either neck braces or weird looking jewelry, and I don’t love shawls because to wear them means you’re constantly fussing with how to keep it on. I mean you can get a shawl pin or whatever but then you’re essentially just pinning it into a cowl so then why did I make a shawl in the first place? So you need something that wears as easily as a cowl but brings all the drama fashion-knit reallness of a shawl.

So I’m like “oh, duh.”

Why not have a shawl that’s been caught mid-transformation into a cowl?

Once I started on that concept I figured the colors should be shifting too, you know, really hammer the magic theme home with an obvious visual cue. Which is honestly just a handy excuse to invent a fade shawl of my very own even though I know I’m late to the party.

In case you skimmed my sales pitch (if you can even call it that) here’s the data pertinent to you, the prospective buyer:

Needle is a US4, I did need a 24” when I started the cowl as the 40” I was using for the shawl was too big. probably best to have both.
The shawl is approximately 64” from tip to tip and roughly 18” across at it’s widest point.
The Cowl is about 24” long and is wider at the top than the base, so it can be worn up as a hood, but when it’s down it drapes nicely over the chest so you never get that weird extra flap to fuss with.

Yarn A; (which is the tip of the shawl and the top of the Cowl)
Black Cat Fibers Nomad Sock in “Deja vu” - approx 200 yards
Yarn B: yarn Rehab Rockshelter Sock in “Blacksmithing” - approx 260 yards
Yarn C: Hedgehog Fibres Sock in “Pod” - approx 350 yards
Yarn D: Yeti Yarns Skunk Ape Sock in “Teal with It” - approx 320 yards

Any fingering weight yarn will work to sub in so don’t be afraid to mix brands.

Also, just for kicks, I’m going to specifically recommend using Freia hand painted yarns A “yarn bomb” and a “shawl ball” in the same color is just about the right yardage and would probably make a super cool project wherein you don’t have to worry about changing yarns at all. Actually I just might do that myself. It’s a pretty solid Idea.

And “epoximise” is the incantation for the spell that bonds two objects, so perfect, so nerdy.
