This was an odds-and-ends project, using sport weight yarn held double. I used a combination of Frog Tree Alpaca Sport (no longer in production) and Mirasol Nuna. You can use any sport/fingering weight yarn held double, or worsted turns out similar gauge (you may need to add a few rows, as “doubled” yarn works up taller vs its width.

This was made to be flexible regarding materials- if you’re not sure you have enough of a color, you can change from earth to sky or sky to treetop (background colors) a row or two above or below where it’s shown on the chart. If you run out of bark color, I guess the leaves are thicker in the middle of the tree so you can’t see the twigs! It’s fine! I estimate less than 50g of each color.

Since it turned out cool, I figured I’d share the pattern; can’t wait to see your versions!

This pattern is free to use; please consider making a donation to Humane Society of Northeast Iowa, or another animal shelter or rescue of your choice. If you’re shopping for yarn rather than using your stash, please consider ordering from my local yarn shop (Blue Heron Knittery in Decorah IA).
