I came up with this pattern after making another shrug that I wasn’t too happy with. It is knit in the round, from cuff to cuff, and flat across the back. I added some ribbing to the opening.

Keep in mind that I have never written a pattern :) You may want to measure your own back and substitute that number for the length of the back and change the number of the picked up stitches for the rib border accordingly. Also, I made the sleeves more of a 3/4 length. longer sleeves would be as easy as working a few extra rows before beginning to increase, and the same number after decreasing.
