This hat came by way of inspiration. I saw a picture on Pinterest but the link was long dead. The pattern unavailable. I spent quite a bit of time searching but could not find a pattern – not even Google had the answer!

I started brainstorming and even asked my friend, Drezna, what she thought. From there, this pattern was born. It is called Trenton’s Choice because it is his decision on how to wear the hat.

This is the basic hat structure. If you are like me, you can see a thousand different variations popping into your head. I am going to write the basics of how to create this hat. You can fill in with whatever your heart and needles desire!

I used a worsted weight yarn and made this 9” so my son, Trenton, could have a slouchy hat. You could do this hat to 9” and use the extra bits to turn the bottom up or leave it slouchy. It is super warm since it is a double hat. If you want, knit for 7” before decreasing and have a tight fitting hat with no ability to turn up the bottom of it – but still have a nice, warm double hat for the winter.
