TRIATHLETES - Beanie
After designing Easing Flow, the idea to knit a slouchy beanie with a triathlon theme came naturally. I’m not a triathlete, nor an athlete, just an amateur! This year I turned 50 and not only I’ve resumed swimming (indoors and in open waters) but I started to run 5k on Saturday ParkRun. I’m not a regular participant but I’m enjoying it. Now with bikes I don’t have an incredible feeling, I used to cycle a bit as a child and teenager, but growing up I always preferred motorbikes/ scooters, less tiring, but who knows maybe in my 60s I will pick up a bike!
These activities led me to meet many lovely people and great athletes that compete in Duathlon and/or Triathlon; the community around the lakes I go swimming for example are so supportive and fun people to be around. I wanted to include this experience in one hat that can be worn during waiting time at sports events or on a relaxing day.

Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
GAUGE
29 stitches and 36 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded stockinette in the round on gauge-size needle(s). Use 3mm needle(s) as a starting point for swatching.
SIZES
I made 2 sizes for the beanie, to fit adult heads with 51-58cm / 20-223/4in circumference.
PATTERN NOTES
This hat is worked from bottom to top. The ribbing, the body and the crown are worked in stranded colourwork.
CHART NOTES
The charts show the brim and the body of the beanie. The motif repeat has 3 bands and their order can be changed as preferred. In my sample I put the swimmer as the central band as swimming is my favourite and due to it being shorter than the other bands, it gives the design a more balanced look.
Three colour work combinations are charted, but the options are countless!
PLEASE NOTE: the pattern is for personal use only
