Trifoliata Motif
This pattern uses strategic placement of spike stitches and an unusual granny triangle base to create a striking motif. The motif can be repeated and joined to create a fabric. This pattern can be used with any yarn as long as you use an appropriately sized hook. I recommend at least 2 contrasting colors to get the maximum effect of the spike stitch color change. For the illustrations, I used Red Heart With Love yarn and a size 6.50mm hook.
The universality of this pattern means that there is no set gauge, yardage, or size estimates. In the illustrations, my triangles are approximately 6” tall (from base to peak) and 7” wide (across each side.) I used 130 motifs (13 across, 10 down) to create a blanket 49” wide and 60”’ tall. Your size may be different depending on yarn choice, hook size, and tension.
This pattern is suitable for a confident beginner who has mastered double crochet stitches and chaining.
