At the time of designing this pattern, here in England we were in a period of lockdown restrictions, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Whilst we were unable to hug our loved ones, there was nothing to stop them wrapping up cosily in woollies that had been knitted for them with lots of love! This soft, light scarf is long enough to wrap snuggly three times round your neck, like a big hug – hence the name :)

This simple yet elegant scarf has a delicate eyelet border. Using only garter stitch, yarn overs, and simple increases and decreases, this scarf is a very relaxing knit, and is suitable if you’re pretty new to knitting. The optional pompoms on either end add a touch of fun!

The pattern includes instructions on how to adapt the design to use different yarn weights, or to alter the length and width of the scarf to your preferred size.

SIZING: Finished scarf measured 93“/235cm x 7“/17cm excluding pompoms

TENSION:
Unblocked: 4”/10cm = 22 sts and 42 rows over garter stitch on 3.5mm needles
Blocked: 4”/10cm = 24 sts and 30 rows over garter stitch on 3.5mm needles

YARN: I used an entire skein of BFL Sock Superwash 4ply yarn (approx. 385m/421yd per 110g skein) naturally hand-dyed by Tracy of ‘Handmade over Yonder’

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS:
3.5mm needles (or correct size to achieve tension)
Pompom maker (optional)
