Triple Rose Leaf Edging
This beautiful pattern is from 1902 by Butterick. The original instructions were full of errors; I made many changes to approximate the original photo. There are never more than 26 stitches to work and 6 of those are easy-to-learn header stitches.
Row 1 starts at the header edge and the leaf pattern starts near the leaf tops and works toward the stems. Each leaf has a single reverse stockinette stitch center vein. The short edges will not block straight without set-up rows but those rows are optional.
Skills needed include optional short rows, long tail cast on, yarn overs, double yarn overs, decreases: k2tog, SSK, k3tog, S2KP2.
9 sts/inch and 13 rows/inch in blocked rose lace pattern with #10 crochet thread and #2 needles
Gauge is not important; any block-able thread/yarn and size needles will work. Make a swatch to check for looks and width.
5 yards of #10 cotton thread will make 1 16-row repeat in the above gauge.
A matching insertion is posted separately.
