This is a great pattern to use up remnants. Gauge isn’t important, yarn isn’t important although using something washable is helpful.

This is lovely and stretchy, three cables separated by 1x1 ribbing. It would be easy to modify, increase girth by simply adding to the ribbing and to the height by adding on a pattern repeat.

I love to make these as little gifts, put them on a disposable coffee cup with a lid and fill the cup with treats for the recipient.
