Tristia Mitts are a reversible design knitted with two strands of yarn held together. Yarns are separated for the front motif, which is double knit (has two layers) and looks identical on both sides. Contrasting yarn colours make the motif stand out against the marled background creating two “right” sides.

The mitt is knitted sideways with two seams (grafts), one along the outer edge and another along the inner thumb. You first work the front, then the back and thumb and gusset. The thumb is worked on one row of the back, similar to a one-row buttonhole.

This is the second pattern in what is becoming a series of patterns called Tristia. It follows Tristia Mittens and precedes Tristia Hat. There are also plans for a cowl or a scarf. All Tristia designs are reversible sideways knits, worked in marled garter stitch, and sharing the same double knit motif.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY
This is a quick project, worked entirely in garter stitch, with some advanced knitting techniques, such as double knitting, short rows, and grafting, thrown in for extra challenge. All techniques are demonstrated in my video tutorials and should be easy to follow, but some may require extra practice.

SIZE
One size to fit an average female hand.
The mitt is 7in (18-19 cm) long and 6.3in (16cm) in circumference.

YARN
Combine two single ply or lightly twisted 2-3 ply fingering or sport weight yarns. It may be hard to get gauge with a high twist sock yarn.
