Mom always said that mittens are warmer than gloves. This clever handwarmer grew out of the need for my bicycling daughter to shift gears during her winter commutes. Turns out there are other times a person needs an index finger in the cold – taking pictures, using binoculars, scratching a nose, sipping a cup of tea, pinching the wind-reddened cheeks of a loved one. All the warmth of a woolen mitten, with a bonus index finger!

Adult size is given; pattern can be adjusted for the wearer.
