Troodos
As a child, I spent a few years living in Cyprus. It was, for the most part, a brilliant experience. But Winter and Christmas never quite felt right… There was no waking up to frost glistening on the ground, or curling up under a blanket with a hot drink in the evening, or bundling up in coats and scarfs and mittens to venture outside… And it just felt a little bit less magical. We did, however, get a small glimpse of that magic when the snow arrived at the very top of the mountains. And it is my precious memories of sledding and throwing snowballs on those snowy mountains which inspired these mittens.
The mittens are worked from the cuff and knit down the hand, increasing to create thumb stitches (which you will place on scrap yarn and come back to at the end) and decreasing to close the fingertips. The mountains and snow flurries along the way come together using simple and intuitive colourwork motifs, making these an ideal first colourwork project or speedy gift knit.
