Truly Outrageous : An asymmetrical triangle shawl inspired by one of my favorite shows as a young girl, Jem and the Holograms! You will have a blast knitting stockinette stripes, two-color brioche zig zags, textural 80’s confetti and fishnet lace. Showtime, Synergy!

A little note about gauge and yarn:
I used almost ALL of my skeins of yarn. Each skein that I received had an additional 6 - 10 grams of yarn over the noted grams. Be sure to weigh your yarn beforehand and knit a simple stockinette swatch to ensure you do not run out of yarn.

Construction Notes:
Jem, she’s Truly Outrageous!! I have literally had that song in my head since I began planning this shawl! I actually
re-watched several of the original episodes from 1985 (they’re all on YouTube if you’d like to watch them as well!)
to get inspiration for this shawl! Think of it like a journey back in time to the 1980’s, maybe you were a child then
as I was. Experimenting with hot neon colors, fun stripes, textural confetti, and an asymmetrical shape….I hope you
have a blast!

I don’t want to give too much away about the stripes in this shawl, in case you want to be surprised. But the basic
construction is starting from the top and working your way out and down. Stitches are increased at each edge, as
well as in the center, but with an additional increase at the Right Edge, it makes the center spline of this shawl a bit
OFF-center.

This shawl is so fun to knit and wear, and will elevate any outfit. I love wearing this shape kerchief-style, wrapped
around my neck with the bottom of the triangle pointing downwards.

Yarn: Fingering / Sock Weight
1271 yds / 1163 m
Color A: 438 yds / 401 m
Color B: 187 yds / 171 m
Color C: 216 yds / 198 m
Color D: 219 yds / 200 m
Color E: 211 yds / 193 m

Shown in: Junk Yarn Starlet 2-ply (75% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon, 5% Silver Stellina; 438 yds / 401 m per 100 g)
A: 1 full skein in Jem (pink)
B: 1 half skein in Kimber (red)
C: 1 half skein in Shana (purple)
D: 1 half skein Aja (blue)
E: 1 half skein in Pizzazz (green)

Yarn Notes:
If you would like to substitute yarns for this pattern, you can use only 3 colors for this pattern instead of 5. Colors B - E are all half skeins of fingering weight yarn, so you could use one color skein for B & D, and one for C & E. This way it will break up the colors nicely.

Choosing your Colors (if you did not order the Holiday Box):
All of my colors are solid / semi-solid, with Color A having a bit of speckles. I would recommend choosing your Color A as the Main Color carried throughout the shawl. Then Colors B - E to be contrasting colors to Color A. You could definitely choose a gradient for those, that would look lovely! I would choose Color A, then you could have a gradient for the other colors. My shawl is definitely more bright colors, but more subdued would definitely work if that’s your preference.

Stashbuster!!
This shawl pattern is a fabulous way to bust your stash! Grab those leftovers and 50g balls (maybe leftover from some socks you made?) along with one full skein with at least 438 yds / 401 m and you’re good to go!!

Needles:
32” / 81 cm US 5 / 3.75 mm circular needles
Circular needles are used to accommodate a large number of stitches and for two-color brioche knitting. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain proper gauge.

Tools:
Tapestry needle, row counter, 1 stitch marker
