This cowl is made all in one piece but worked back-and-forth in rows. There’s no sewing or grafting. There’s not even any casting off to do. Not possible? Trust me.

You can make the cowl in any gauge - it’s a fantastic stash buster. A worksheet makes designing your own straightforward. Make it as stripy as you like, using up odds and ends or special mini-skeins. A yarn with long colour changes will make the stripes for you - ideal for faster gift knits. A truly unisex design, it can equally well be made in masculine colours.

Standard size: 25cm/10” high x 52.5cm/21” around. Instructions for making custom fit.

Tension
Instructions are given to make the cowl in any gauge you like, working in garter stitch (knit every row). You will need to know your intended gauge.

Materials

• circular needles with min 120cm/47” cable in size required for your chosen yarn/gauge.
• stitch markers
• two safety pins approx 3cm/1” long are useful
• tapestry needle to weave in ends
• chosen yarn - specified for the two designed styles, or guidance given on approximate m/yds for standard size in different yarn weights. A worksheet takes you through calculating quantities accurately; for this you will need to weigh a swatch.**

Optional
Instructions are given for using EITHER a regular knitted cast-on plus one row of picked up stitches OR a provisional cast on for a neater result. Provisional option also needs:

• materials for your preferred method e.g. crochet hook and waste yarn in the same gauge as working yarn.
• spare circular needles in same or slightly smaller size than main needles with min 40cm/16” long cable
