Tuan Shawl
My aim with this shawl was to create something that was:
-quick and easy to knit on any machine
-has good drape
-is a useful size and shape
-doesn’t require too much yarn or finishing
Basically something perfect for gifting or for charity knitting. The Tuan Shawl was the result!
Although it is quite large, it is knit in one piece - no joining 2 segments together! - and looks good in a variety of gauges and yarn types, from laceweight linen to aran wool. The pattern is written for both mid and standard gauge machines, no ribber required.
The shawl is also very economical with yarn because of the stitch pattern.
On a mid gauge LK150 I used 600m of DK weight @ T6.5
The finished shawl measures 82cm/32” deep x 184cm/72” wide
On a standard gauge KH891 I used 670m of lace weight @ T8
The finished shawl measures 82cm/32” deep x 174cm/68” wide
The fringe edging is optional and requires about 60m more yarn. You could also crochet along the bottom edge, but it hangs fine just left as it is. The shawl can be knit easily in under an hour. You need to be familiar with using hold position on your machine, the various needle positions, and latch hook cast on and binding off.
