This pattern is knit in the round on circular needles. It allows for a lot of leeway on the part of the knitter. Four skeins knit on a size 9 16” circular needle allows for a very nice knot at the neckline. The same four skeins knit on a size 10 will be longer. How many skeins you use really depends on how many colors you want to include, how long you want the finished product to be, and really, how much money you are willing to spend.

You can knit the whole thing or do patches of other stitch combinations as long as you make sure you maintain the same number of stitches per row.
