Tulip Shawl
Tulip is a symmetrical shawl with a lovely shape of a pentagonal flower petal on a straight base.
The shawl was designed by Norbert Nagy as a member of the 11 wildswans team.
As a matter of fact, this is a further developed version of the Annamaria’s Galaxy shawl. The goal was to make it more exciting with more ribs and a shape reminiscent of flower petals.
We start at the top of the center with a garter-like tab. The stitches are increased at the edges and at the center in each RS row in order to achieve the shape of a traditional triangle up to row 13.
The pentagonal ribbed texture of the shawl will be formed as of row 15.
Gauge
The stockinette stitch should contain 22 sts and 27 rows = 10x10 cm/4”x4” after the blocking procedure. (US 2 1/2 needle)
Using the given gauge is not crucial, but, newertheless, any differences may affect the size of the finished shawl.
Finished Measurements
Approximately 187 cm / 73 1/2” wingspan, 84 cm / 33” from top to bottom.
Yarn
Approximately two skein (2x 420 yd /384 m) Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light „Tart” 100% superwash merino wool (110 gram, 0.238 lbs / skein). Of course it is also possible to use other yarn following the original knitting pattern.
