Tulips is a light and airy sweater designed to celebrate the return of spring. It features panels of eyelet lace textures.

CONSTRUCTION
This garment is worked top-down. Stitches are cast on for the back of neck and short row shaping is used to create a curved back of neckhole. Three panels of textured stitches are established along the back piece. Stitches are picked up to create two front pieces, with short row shaping used to slope the shoulder. A panel of textured stitches is established down each front piece. Increases are worked to create and shape the sleeves and a V neckhole. For most sizes, increases are also worked to shape the armscye at front and back. For the sweater version, when the V neckhole is close to completion, another panel of textured stitches is established at the centre front, then the V-Neck is joined and the garment then continues in the round. For the cardigan version, the V neckhole is worked in stockinette and once all increases have been worked the garment continues to be worked flat. Once the body is complete, sleeves are each worked in the round and stitches are picked up around the neckhole to work a neckband (for the sweater) or buttonband (for the cardigan).

SIZING GUIDE
This garment is graded into sizes 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) (6, 7, 8, 9, 10). Recommended positive ease is 4+” / 10 cm at the chest circumference.

SAMPLES
The wearer is 5’10” / 178 cm with a 37” / 92.5 cm chest circumference. The sweater sample has been worked in size 4, giving the wearer 8” / 20 cm of positive ease at the chest; the cardigan sample has been worked in size 5, giving the wearer 10.5” / 26.5 cm of positive ease at the chest. To accommodate the height of the wearer, in both samples an extra 2” / 5 cm of length has been added to the sleeve length and the option to increase neckband depth has been worked for both. In the sweater sample, an extra 2” / 5 cm of length has been added to the body.

GAUGE
Using 4 mm / US size 6 needles, or needle size required to meet gauge, 18 stitches over 26 rounds in both stockinette stitch and the textured pattern, wet blocked, creates a 4x4” / 10x10 cm square.

YARN
The sample has been worked using Stylecraft’s Grace Aran weight base (85% Premium Acrylic / 10% Mohair / 5% Wool; 295 m / 322 yds per 100 g) in colourways Oyster for the sweater and Black Cherry for the cardigan.

If substituting a yarn, I would recommend using a DK weight yarn or fingering weight and mohair held double to achieve the same open texture and drape as the sample.
