Mosaic knitting gives this 2-color cowl its striking appearance:
use a darker color for the background “field” and a lighter color
for the foreground “tulips”.

Sized to allow it to be worn as an around the neck cowl, it also can be pulled up around the head to be worn as a hood.

  • Top and bottom edges are worked as I-cord bind-off
  • A provisional cast-on creates top/ bottom edge symmetry

Requires 120-130 yds each of both dark, light yarns. (Tweeds or variegated yarns work well for the dark “field”, as shown in the blue sample which uses Manos’ Marla in “Marino” for the field and the solid color Manos’ Sami in “Dewdrop” for the tulips.)

The gray/peach sample uses solid colored Sami in “Kohl” and “Lotus”..

If substituting yarn, choose a yarn that provides the needed drape to offset the slight bulk of the mosaic knitting design.

Please consider using the suggested Manos del Uruguay yarns. Manos del Uruguay is a non-profit organization where the Uruguayan women artisans are the owners of the company. Read the Manos del Uruguay story here.
