Tulliver Aran Cable Hat Knitting Pattern (pdf digital download)
’A classic aran cable twist hat with folded rib brim’

A classic bobble hat designed for aran-weight wool – pictured in The Croft Shetland aran in colours ‘Westerwick’ (mottled pink), ‘Ollaberry’ (pink) and ‘Reawick’ (red).

There are four sizes - a child size (+5 yrs, 19.5” head circ) and a teen/small (21”) plus a medium (22”) and a large (23”) adult size. The pattern is written for single point needles (knit flat) but a chart for the cable section is included with the pattern and this could be used to knit the hat in the round.*

MATERIALS: The pattern requires a pair of 4mm and a pair of 5mm knitting needles, a tapestry needle and a cable needle (a 4 or 4.5mm knitting needle can be used instead). You will also need 100g of aran-weight wool.

TECHNIQUES: Casting on using the stretchy rib cast on method, knit and purl stitches, rib, slipped stitches, decreasing, cable stitches, mattress stitch (for sewing seam) and making a pompom

DIFFICULTY: Easy - Medium

Note, if knitting in the round, cast on 2 stitches less as these are selvage stitches that are taken into the seam when sewing up when knit flat.
