Tunic Heather Mohair Edition
CONSTRUCTION AND SCHEMATIC
The tunic has an A-line silhouette
with an elongated back. The yoke has raglan construction, with short-row neck shaping
(to raise the back & lower the front for a round ~9 cm/ 3.7” deep neck opening).
It is worked top-down in the round, in one piece with sleeves worked down from the live edge of the yoke.
It is intended to fall at the hipline in the front and ~10 cm-15/4-6” lower in the back for an average height of 168 cm/ 5’7”.
It is decorated with a large lace panel over the back & smaller motifs along the hem & cuffs, that can be embellished with beads.
YARN:
180-350 g/6.3-12.3 oz of lace-weight (800-1000 m/880-1100 yds per 100 g/3.5 oz) kid-mohair on silk or polyamide (see the size chart below for detailed yarn amount). The sample was knit out of Italian cone yarn. Test-knitters have successfully substituted for
- Drops Kid-Silk (75% Mohair, 25% silk; 200 m/ 220 yds per 25 g/0.9 oz ball)
- Lana Grossa SIlkhair (70% Mohair, 30% silk; 210 m/ 230 yds per 25 g/0.9 oz ball)
- Rowan Kidsilk Haze (70% Mohair, 30% silk; 210 m/ 230 yds per 25 g/0.9 oz ball)
NEEDLES:
- Main: 3.5 mm/ US4 (or size to get gauge!) circular needles on 40-80 cm /16-32” cable
- Cast-on: 3.0mm/US 2.5 circular needles on 40 cm /16” cable
- Sleeves: if you know you knit tighter - go up 1 needle size to 3.75 mm/US 5. You can use either magic loop, or DPNs, or 9” circulars
GAUGE: 23 stitches by 30 rows per 10 cm/4” square in stockinette worked in the round after wet blocking
The pattern includes 7 SIZES: XS (S, M, L) (XL, 2XL, 3XL) with 2-3 cm/1” of built-in positive ease.
