No need for special hooks, this beanie can be worked on a regular straight crochet hook. All the stitches for each square will fit on the hook at one time.

The beanie is worked one square at a time, Entrelac style, from the top down. Starting with one square, making a second one, then joining them by picking up stitches from these previously worked squares.

The pattern is written in 4 sizes; extra small, small, medium and large. The measurements are taken with the beanie in its unstretched state. Depending on the fit required, this means there will be an allowance of around 2 more inches (5 cm) extra.

Measurements - Extra small 15 inches/38 cm circumference, Small 17 inches/43 cm, Medium 19 inches/48.5 cm, and Large 20 inches/51 cm.

This is an ideal pattern for using up oddments of double knitting weight yarn. If using one colour, I suggest using one 100g ball, approximately 322 yards/295 metres, with 5.00mm and 4.00mm hooks, (or size needed to obtain the correct tension/gauge).

The pattern uses Tunisian knit and purl stitches with regular crochet stitches for the brim. Construction diagrams are given for both left- and right-handed.

Basic stitch instructions are included in the Abbreviations section.
