The photographs illustrate the blanket made with King Cole Melody double knitting yarn, (shade 965, 100% acrylic, 100g, approximately 320 yards/290 metres), but there are several makes of yarn on the market which are very similar. The border is worked with plain dyed double knitting yarn in stripes, with contrasting colours, 1 ball of each colour.

I have given the quantities of yarn in 100g balls because that is how the yarn I used was packaged, but the border does not use that much. I’m sure 25g or 50g balls would be sufficient. (Note: The main part does take the quantity shown).

The main part of the blanket can be worked with a regular straight crochet hook as there are only 25 stitches on the hook at one time. Although the borders will need to be worked with an extra-long Tunisian crochet hook.

An alternative border is explained using double crochet (US single crochet) stitch and a regular 4.5mm crochet hook.
