This is a mitten chart and tutorial for creating a women’s medium, lined, mitten or a men’s large, unlined, mitten. It uses traditional Turkish motifs. These mittens are knit with a heavy lace weight yarn because of the size of the motif.

The mitten tutorial describes how to use charts to knit custom fit mittens. The main PDF contains only the charts and reference materials for my Turkish Sampler Mittens. The tutorial is a second pdf file.

The central motif is a version of the dragon seen in a wide array of Turkish carpets and woven items. The smaller motifs are also discussed in detail within the pattern. These include a snake, single hook, double hook, apple, and an interlocking chain.

The dragon chart is a large rectangle, 43 stitches wide. In order to avoid a mitten that is huge, you need to use a heavy lace weight yarn.
