Labyrinths have a rich history; today they are used as tools for meditation and reflection. They are also really fun to make, and now you can knit your own! These knitted finger labyrinths feature beautifully curved turns, and come in three different sizes, each with the option for entering from the left or the right. That’s six different labyrinths possible!

This pattern is more of an e-book, with separate directions for each size. It includes a brief introduction to the labyrinth and helps for further exploration.

This design combines techniques from mosaic (slipped stitch) knitting and cabling a single stitch over no more than two stitches. Optional short rows add a bit of extra finesse (samples all utilize short rows). Only one color is worked at a time, and you can work from written or charted instructions. Cabling without a cable needle is recommended. Links to several tutorial videos are included.

Charts for medium and large sizes are fairly large; a chart reader is recommended if you wish to work from charts.

Charity is a heavy worsted weight, 3 ply, non-superwash Corriedale wool yarn in hand-dyed semisolid, tonal, and variegated colorways inspired by nature. I chose it for its smooth texture, roundness, and color palette that reminds me of watercolors; it holds shape well and strikes a nice balance between hard-wearing and pleasing to touch. While size is not important in this pattern, please note that yarn substitutions may produce fabric with a different drape (example, superwash wool may drape more).
