Turn A Turnip Profit
This is a pattern for a little turnip, scaled to join my existing produce family. This is another beginner-friendly pattern, but does require a set of DPN’s or circular needles for working an I-cord. The stems are worked flat (with an I-cord portion that can be knitted flat as well). The root portion can be worked in the round.
The finished object measures about 6” from top to bottom when using the prescribed needle size and yarn weight.
NOTIONS:
Pair US 6 / 4.00 mm circular needles or DPNs
Embroidery needle
MATERIALS:
4 g Cream (Worsted to Heavy Wstd. Wt.)
8 g Green (Sport to Light Wstd. Wt.)
Poly-fill
GAUGE:
Different size needles and yarn can be substituted. Gauge is not important for this project so long as the yarn used for the ROOT is a bit more bulky than recommended for the needles you have chosen. This weight requirement is not essential for the STEM portion as there is no stuffing involved. It is actually advantageous for this portion to be worked in lighter weight yarn like sport weight to give the fabric a more delicate, leaflike texture.
SKILLS:
Basic knitting technique, including stockinette stitch and simple increases/decreases, I-cord (optional). Basic seaming and embroidery.
